Commercial Membrane

What is EPDM?

EPDM, or Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer, is a highly durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane used in low-slope buildings. This type of roofing membrane is commonly used on commercial buildings and is renowned for its flexibility and durability. It can be installed on roofs of all shapes and sizes and is designed to be resistant to UV rays, ozone, and weathering. It is available in black or white colorways and a variety of widths and thicknesses. EPDM can be applied using various methods, including mechanically attached, ballasted, or the fully adhered technique. Any seams in the membrane are sealed with liquid adhesive or specialty tape.

Advantages of EPDM Commercial Membrane Roofing

There are many advantages associated with choosing an EPDM membrane roof for your low-slope commercial building. Some of the most popular benefits include the following:

  • Why Choose Asphalt Shingles

Affordability - In comparison to other commercial roofing materials, the cost of EPDM membrane is lower. It can also be applied without tearing off the existing roofing, which reduces the cost of installation even further.

  • Why Choose Asphalt Shingles

Eco-Friendly - EPDM membrane roofs are typically black, but they are also available in white, which helps to reflect UV rays away from the building, reducing the cost of cooling the property.

  • Why Choose Asphalt Shingles

Fire Resistance - EPDM is fire-resistant and can also help slow down the progress of a fire if one occurs.

  • Why Choose Asphalt Shingles

Longevity - Commercial membrane roofing can be expected to last for 20 years or more when it is properly installed. It is resistant to radiation and damage from UV rays and can withstand high winds and hail of up to 3 inches.

  • Why Choose Asphalt Shingles

Reduces Energy Costs - When properly installed, EPDM commercial membrane roofing can reflect UV rays away from the roof, keeping the building cooler in the summer months. However, it will also help to insulate the building in colder winter months, which can reduce heating and cooling costs considerably.
